Wildland Firefighting Coordinator (6-Month Contract)

Position Summary: The Wildland Firefighting Coordinator will oversee the operations and logistics of the Neyaskweyahk Wildland Firefighting team. This independent contractor role requires strong leadership, coordination, and organizational skills to ensure effective management of firefighting personnel, resources, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Management:
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee wildland firefighting operations.
• Ensure all fire crews are properly dispatched and equipped for deployments.
• Monitor fire activity and make strategic recommendations for response efforts.
• Maintain records of crew assignments, fire incidents, and operational effectiveness
• Must have project management experience.

Compliance & Safety:
• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, including proper safety certifications for personnel.
• Verify that all personnel have required training, equipment, and documentation.
• Implement and maintain safety protocols aligned with industry best practices.
• Ensure NWLF Vehicles are maintained.

Human Resources & Training:
• Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and training of firefighting personnel.
• Develop schedules and coordinate work assignments for crew members.
• Promote integrity, teamwork, and high ethical standards within the team.

Financial & Administrative Duties:
• Maintain financial records related to firefighting operations, including budgeting for equipment, travel, and accommodations.
• Process invoices for services rendered and track payments received.
• Ensure financial compliance with contractual obligations and funding availability.

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Proven experience in wildland firefighting coordination or emergency response management.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of Alberta’s wildfire regulations and fire response protocols.
• Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Valid certifications in wildfire suppression and safety procedures.
• Must provide a copy of valid Driver’s license and own transportation.
• Must live local to Maskwacis
• Must have an email address and computer (Contract work requires to communicate with VP Operations).
• Must have a fully operational cell phone
• Must sign an Oath of Confidentiality

Contract Term: May 1, 2025 – September 30, 2025 (with potential extension through October 2025 based on fire season duration).
